Dental stuff … have YOU ever had a tooth besides a wisdom tooth (AKA 3rd molar) pulled? I had to have a molar pulled 3 weeks ago. Sad, sad is me. Newsflash! The tooth fairy no longer visits after you’re an adult.
I’m not happy about losing this tooth … this molar number 18 to be specific. Here’s a previous post about dental pain. If you like to read about pain click that link. Honestly, the pain I experienced written about in that previous post makes my husband’s kidney stone look like nothing … either that, or I have a lower tolerance to pain!
And what does the “Dentist of the Year” get? … A plaque!
One of my cats has allergy induced coughing. Did you know that asthma in cats looks like puking? It’s true. I did not know. My cat makes this weird barking cough just like the cat in the video (see below).
My kitty is now doing well after being checked out by the vet, and doesn’t have severe asthma thankfully. He’s responding well to Zyrtec, an over-the-counter antihistamine (normally for humans, off-label use in cats) I crush in his food at least every other day. I also have an albuterol inhaler with a spacer to give him a rescue treatment for any of those coughing episodes.

According to the Cornell University Feline Health Center, up to 5% of cats suffer from feline asthma. Feline asthma is caused by an allergic reaction to inhaled particles, called allergens. The immune system of a cat susceptible to allergens will trigger an inflammation of the airways, leading to breathing difficulties.
What are the symptoms of feline asthma? An asthmatic cat can have labored, open-mouthed, or rapid breathing, wheezing, coughing, and even vomiting. Cats with breathing issues will often sit in a crouched position, extending their head and neck forward while coughing or wheezing.
My husband had a kidney stone two weeks ago. Whoa, can that man take a lot of pain! And did you know that typically speaking, a stone under 5 mm usually doesn’t require surgery? His was 3 mm — I guess he’s an underachiever. Oh, if only he could push out diamonds! His dad told him to drink beer to pass the stone. He also recommended watermelon. My husband opted for the beer. Sure enough, the next day my husband drank two beers and voila, he gave birth to his stone! Beer as medicine … who knew?

I have only had one cavity my entire life and then a root canal in that tooth then I had to have it pulled. I hate the space!
Cats with asthma. I’m sure all people who have asthma from being around cats thinks this is poetic justice. I don’t. Poor kitty. Asthma is scary.
I will remember the part about beer if I ever have a kidney stone. Was it super painful for him?

Apparently it was painful for hubby. He had a single dried tear on his face. He can take a lot of pain. He told me he felt like something was imploding inside him! He said also he thought bhe may be dying. He never calls me at work and that’s what he did when he was having that pain. He’s fine now and is going to put more beer into his diet!!!
Yes, poetic justice for cats with allergies! My poor little Teddy Bear. Allergies are VERY bad here in Austin. I had to take medicine today. And I’m allergic to the pollens of catkins from oak trees! Not allergic to cats BUT catkins!!! Achoo!

Granny says the beer is the only good thing when you have kidney stones and jumping when you have a kidney-stone-attack…MOL 😀 Granny had kidney stones too and almost lost her kidney and life because of them, because it was stuck in her kidney, but when she came out of the hospital she started to drink Kumis Kucing tea once a day and didn’t get them anymore since 15 years…thank cat! Granny also knows how the toothies feel too, Elizabeth…MOL 😀
Poor kitty with asthma. I do cough sometimes that’s horrible too. Granny had a doggie who had asthma after she got her Cocktail Vaccinations, that was really scary, but it was the last vaccination she got and she healed and lived happily ever after for 18 years ❤

Tjanks for all your nice words. I’ll look up that K.K. tea as I’ve never heard it. Kidney stone seems to have resolved.
Cat Teddy is doing well with 5 mg Zyrtec daily while this oak season is high and haven’t heard any more weird cat coughs.
The hole is filling in nicely where my tooth was. I don’t know if I’ll get an implant or not — so costly and is a muti-step process.
Now to go look up that tea!

I hurt just thinking about having a tooth pulled. I’m Sorry you had to go through that. I also read that many allergies can be caused by problems with your digestive system. I don’t know if that is what’s wrong with your cat but I thought I would throw that out there.

I’m pretty sure it’s not digestive stuff with Ted. When we let him out on the catio he often comes back sneezing with watery eyes and it’s seasonal. My husband, Teddy and me all seem to be allefgic to oak pollen. Whereas little Teo cat seems just fine all the time.
We’ll see how Ted does after oak season and I stop his Zyrtec!

Hi there friend! I’m sorry about your tooth. I also have a tooth the dentist is “keeping an eye on.” I’d rather he not look at it at all, because then maybe I can stop worrying about it. Also, my cat’s occasionally make that coughing, wheezy noise. Hmmmm, I thought they were just working on hair balls. I will have to pay closer attention in the future. I’m glad your husband is ok. I’ve never had a kidney stone, but I hear it’s very unpleasant. Glad you are doing well! 🙂
